Montivilliers

Last month I have been to a small convention in Montivilliers, near Le Havre in Normandy. They were organizing various demo games, a FOG tournament and a Legends of the Old West one day campaign.

We had a lot of fun. We had three regular games and then a game involving all the player. Each player's posses were hired by one of two railway company. Here are a few pictures I took. Thus the players were divided into two sides.

I also took these photos of a game of FOG involving a beautiful Greek army.

And some of a Normandy 1944 demo game with plastic 20mm miniatures and very good scenery.

Broos

Broos are chaotic creatures from Glorantha, inspiration for the chaotic beastmen of newer games. I made these from plastic toys heads and Games Workshop beastmen, with some green stuff added.

Contrary to Warhammer beastmen, broos tend to look like their "mothers". This is due to their reproduction habits. Hence the deer broo, oxbroo,

goat broo, antelope broo
Two high llamas broos. High llamas are the totem animal of one of the tribes of Prax.
and two ram broos with original Games Workshop heads.

Legends of the Ring

In November 2005 I went to Nottingham with a few French players to play the first Legends of the Old West campaign, run by Mark Latham himself. Since then I can be seen on page 21 of Showdown, the less useful of the LotOW supplements.

In January 2006 some friends run the first French campaign in Levallois. Since then we run a few events every year in the Paris area, and it has even spread lately to Alsace and Normandy.

My club run an annual convention and we have been organizing Legends of the Old West campaigns in it for a few year.

The first one in 2006 was called Gold Rush. We made our first BIG TOWN there.

The table cloth was not so nice though. We improved that later.

On 2007, the campaign was called "Muchachos con Sombreros" and it was set somewhere along the Mexican border.

Last year it was all about animals. Cattle but not only. Each player had a pet animal for his posse with special rules. All the scenarios involved animals : pigs, hens, sheeps, bisons, pigs, ...

In the last scenario we had half the players drive cattle through the town. The other half had to prevent them to do so.

All these pictures come from this page where you can find AARs of many campaigns. They are photos heavy so there should be no problem understanding them. Some of them are even written in both French and English.

The next event will be on June 21st at my club's con, in Le Kremlin-BicĂȘtre which is in Paris. This time it will be about a boxe tournament. Each player will sponsor a boxer and will try everything to have him win the tournament. It will be called "Legends of the Ring".

The idea was inspired by me by the game Les Rois du Ring, a very simple game from Chien Sauvage which is becoming very popular in France. One day we will have to provide a translation.

Knox Iron Company

Here are members of the Iron Company of captain Isidore Knox. The Iron Company was hired by the Neontology Trading Company.

Here they are attacked by velociraptors (from Copplestone Castings). The scene was inspired by those renaissance paintings where men in full plate armour attack bears, armed only with a dagger.

Groups of raptors are far more dangerous than big carnivorous dinosaurs, as any Chris Peers' Saurian Safari player could tell you.

The minis come from Ironclad Miniatures, who manufacture nice steam tanks among others. They were one of my few purchases in Salute.

They are of course inspired by Ned Kelly.

Black Sheep

A tribute to the movie. A refreshingly good horror comedy set in New Zealand.

The sheeps come from Mega Miniatures and the corpse is a Zombiesmith zombie. The hangar was scratch built.

Kovalski's expedition

Kowalski's expedition members trying to shoot game passing by their camp.

The well informed soldiers know that these fearsome monsters are just galliminuses, harmless herbivorous beasts.

I just painted these minis. They are Plain Wars US soldiers from Dixon. Though their style is outdated I still like them very much. They are full of life and character. They will be equally useful for Legends of the Old West games and for Drachenland.

The galliminus are just repainted plastic toys from a flea market.

The tent is a resin model from Newline Designs.

Drachenland Kuirassier

Part of my Drachenland project.

The riders are 28mm Foundry Prussian Cuirassiers from the franco-prussian range.

The dinos are plastic toys from flea markets and cheap dino bags sold in supermarkets. Despite their shiny colours they are often nicely sculpted and come out really well once painted.

There are plenty of different sizes. My biggest dinos are not shown on this photo... but you know... size does not matter...

I did a little greenstuffing. My first ever. It is very crude. I hope to make better next times.

The skeleton was also a toy. A plastic skeleton in several parts sold in toy stores. I also have got a triceratops skeleton. I hope it will look impressive when I put it on a base like this one.
